At least 50 people are dead, with more than 200 injured, after a mass shooting during a country music festival in Las Vegas, Nevada last night.
According to CNN, Las Vegas police believe a lone gunman opened fire on the festival grounds from the 32nd floor of the Mandalay Bay during a performance by Jason Aldean at approximately 10:08 PM local time. Sheriff Joseph Lombardo reports that the as-yet unidentified shooter was “engaged” by authorities and is now dead.
Police have identified the shooter but will not be naming him at this time. Lombardo says the shooter was acting alone: “Right now we believe it’s a sole actor, a lone-wolf-type actor.”
Aldean was not injured in the shooting. “Tonight has been beyond horrific. I still don’t know what to say but wanted to let everyone know that Me and my Crew are safe,” He wrote on Instagram.
