Pro wrestling legend JIMMY “SUPERFLY” SNUKA died Sunday after a battle with cancer. He was 73.
His signature move, and the reason for his nickname, was the way he would jump off the top rope onto his opponents. It seems silly now, because wrestlers have gone so far beyond it . . . but back in the ’70s and early ’80s, it was pretty unique.
And fans REALLY lost their minds in 1983, when he jumped off the top of a STEEL CAGE onto DON MURACO at Madison Square Garden.
Another career highlight was his feud with “ROWDY” RODDY PIPER . . . which started when Piper legitimately smashed a coconut over his head. (Here’s video.) Snuka was inducted into the WWE Hall of Fame in 1996. (Here’s their tribute to him.)
